Benny Corbin Memorial

Volusia Speedway Park welcomed over 100 cars to the property for the opening of the 2026 season in the seventh edition of the Benny Corbin Memorial.

The “Fab 5”, which consists of 604 Late Models, 602 Late Models, DIRTcar UMP Modifieds, 3/4 Modifieds, and Factory Stocks, began collecting points through five Features contested around the 1/2-mile oval in a night that honored the track’s creator.

Here is how each Feature played out:

Factory Stocks

In his first career Factory Stocks race, Camden Harp proved that he is here to stay.

The 12-year-old shocked every person at the Barberville, FL track Saturday night by capturing his first Benny Corbin Memorial trophy after controlling the majority of the 30-lap fight for the $2,098 payday.

Harp started from Pole Position with Justin Reynolds to his outside. While Harp led the opening lap, Reynolds used the middle lane to get the edge for the lead until the first caution flew on Lap 8.

On the restart, Harp regained momentum on the bottom lane to power his way around Reynolds for the top spot while reigning champion Jason Garver, Tanner Thomas, and Patrick Thomas joined the mix in the top five.

While Harp pulled away, the Thomas family took over the two remaining podium positions with Tanner on the cushion and Patrick on the bottom.

At the helm of the field, Polar, GA native managed a one-second gap over the father and son team as he scored a monumental first win on the division’s biggest stage at Volusia.

“It was really fun and racey,” Harp said. “That one restart, I was stuck on the bottom, and they were getting to run around me on the top, and I was able to get a good jump coming down the front straightaway. Once I got to the inside, I got a good run, then started to change my line a little bit, and I just rode away from there.”

602 Late Models

Jason Garver is back like he never left.

Defending a 602 Late Model crown in 2026, the Starke, FL native charged from sixth place for his first Feature win of the year at “The World’s Fastest Half Mile” in opening the night’s Feature racing.

Brandon Yates and Griffin Jones set the front row, with Jones using momentum on the cushion to claim the lead over Yates on the opening lap. Behind Jones, Matt Herlong, and Garver began making their moves to the podium by Lap 3. Yates struggled to gain momentum and conceded multiple positions with the field swarming around him.

While Herlong experimented with different lanes, Garver kept his No. 45 Capital Race Cars glued to the bottom lane to take the runner-up spot by Lap 5. Garver’s advantage helped him chop a one-second gap in two laps to challenge Jones for the lead.

Keeping his car on the bottom, Garver reached Jones by Lap 8 and flew around the No. 17J Late Model to become the new commander of the Feature. “Racin’ Jason” never relinquished the lead as he rocketed to a 3.9-second bubble through the final 12 laps for his first win at the track in 2026.

“The car ran really good,” Garver said. “To be able to start sixth and move up through there, this car was good. I just thank the crew for all their hard work, it takes a lot of people to make this happen.”

604 Late Models

Racing in Joe Kump’s 604 Late Model, Blake Clouser broke through for his first 604 Late Model Feature win Saturday by using speed and strength.

Clouser started in the second row as Kole Platt and Jason Garver raced for the early lead. While Platt led the first two laps, Garver secured the point on Lap 3 by using the middle lane through the corners while Clouser attempted different lanes to gain pace.

Clouser found comfort around the cushion and used it to his advantage by passing Platt on Lap 7, then kept the car on the high side to diminish Garver’s 1.3-second gap as the laps ticked.

On Lap 11, Garver slipped up the track through Turns 1-2, giving Clouser enough speed to cross to the bottom lane across the backstretch to send a slide job into Turns 3-4 to become the new leader.

Behind Clouser, Garret Stewart dueled with Garver to take over second place with four laps remaining, but did not have enough time to catch Clouser as he took the twin checkered flags for the first time in a dirt Late Model.

“I can’t believe it,” Clouser said. “I was driving it for all it was worth.
I was just blasting the fence, that’s what I do best. So I just put my foot on the floorboard. I never heard him, never seen him, but I don’t care.
We were in the right spot where we deserved to be.”

DIRTcar UMP Modifieds

In Jeff Scofield’s first DIRTcar UMP Modified contest, he felt right at home.

The ARCA Menards Series competitor used his asphalt knowledge to help him topple the division’s biggest contenders for his first victory in Barberville, FL on Saturday night.

Starting from ninth, Scofield immediately went to work on improving track position as 2025 title contenders Seth Geary and Jason Garver claimed the top two spots through the first five laps.

Finding the slick surface to his liking, Scofield cracked the podium by Lap 5, then held his third-place positioning until the caution waved on Lap 12.

In the ensuing restart, Scofield made his charge for the lead by taking his Lethal Chassis to the outside of Geary at the exit of Turn 2, then cleared the No. 7G for the lead and built a one-second distance through the final eight laps to take the $1,000-to-win prize.

“I’ll be honest, I ain’t got a clue what I’m doing,” Scofield said. “This is the closest I’m gonna get to (asphalt). So I felt at home. I got to thank the crew, Shawn (Reutimann) for dealing with me, and (David) Stremme for building one hell of a car. But it was pretty fun. First night out in a modified, first time driving one, so we’re good.”

3/4 Modifieds

Dalton Hopke reminded the 3/4 Modified field that he is still the driver to beat.

The 2025 champ returned to his winning ways with a dominant night in the division to start the title defense in the new season of Volusia racing.

Starting from the second row, Ethyn Hwan led the first circuit until Hopke’s machine outmatched him in the middle lane for the position on Lap 2.

With clean air playing to the Jacksonville, FL racer’s favor, he inflated the lead over Hwan and Jesse Powers to 4.3 seconds through the remaining laps of the Feature to start the Volusia Speedway Park season where he last left it – parked in Victory Lane.

“We were a little skeptical,” Hopke admitted. “We put a new body on, and every time we put a new body or wrap on, it usually gets totaled on the first night. So, I’m just glad to be up here. For a second, I was a little nervous. I kept getting sideways down the front stretch, and it scared me a little bit, but we brought it home. That’s all that matters.”
