For more than 40 years, when the lights went on at a dirt track in New York, there was probably one guy to thank – Dave Dixon.
As an ace electrician, Dixon was the behind-the-scenes hero at events like Super DIRT Week and DIRTcar Nationals, solving problems many never knew existed. When the lights stayed on and the power was consistent, Dixon would be the one to thank.
On Friday (Oct. 2) morning, Dixon passed away.
He was a beloved member of the World Racing Group team and the dirt racing community. Beyond his handiwork, his kindness and jubilant spirit were infectious traits that influenced all he worked with. Because of those traits and dedicating over 40 years to working at Super DIRT Week, Dixon became an inaugural Super DIRT Week Buzzie Reutimann Award winner.
Along with his tenure in New York, he also spent several years in Florida, helping to power Volusia Speedway Park. From the PAs to the kitchens, Dixon was the reason Volusia kept running year to year. In 2025, he was honored at the track for his 42 years of working at World Racing Group.
His passion for helping others extended beyond the motorsports world, as he also spent several years as a volunteer fireman.
The World Racing Group family is grateful for his work and his friendship, and will miss him dearly. Our thoughts go out to his wife, Dottie, and his family.
Thank you for always keeping the lights on, Dave.
