As 2026 turns toward springtime conditions in Florida, Volusia Speedway Park is prepared to open its gates for the 58th year of local racing in the area.
The “Fab Five” of the “World’s Fastest Half Mile” consists of 604 Late Models, 602 Late Models, DIRTcar UMP Modifieds, 3/4 Modifieds, and Factory Stocks, which will commence the opening fight on March 21 for the return of the Benny Corbin Memorial.
Named in honor of the track’s founding father, the five divisions will begin the weekend with open practice on Friday, March 20, before racing begins on Saturday night, March 21. The Factory Stocks will go for a special payday of $2,098 in their 30-lap Feature.
Let’s take a look at the storylines to watch at VSP:
Factory Stocks: The 3,300lb machines will welcome the 2026 season with the most anticipated event in division history, with the seventh running of the Benny Corbin Memorial returning to Barberville for the first time since 2019.
The division got a taste of expectations after opening the month with the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Cars for the fourth annual World of Outlaws Bike Week Jamboree. Between the two nights, Dustin Turnage Sr. claimed the checkered flag on Sunday while Tanner Thomas outran his father, Patrick, for the victory in the Monday night finale.
Reigning track champion Jason Garver will return to the facility to repeat his championship effort from 2025. The Starke, FL native clinched the title in the final race of the season in a three-way fight between former champion Patrick Thomas and 20-year-old racer Willy Cuddy.
604 Late Models: Trynt Lloyd did not initially plan to chase the 2025 604 Late Model title, but five Feature victories and top-five finishes across all seven Features contested solidified his first career championship in a dirt Late Model.
When the “World’s Fastest Half Mile” opened its doors for DIRTcar Sunshine Nationals, Lloyd used his title-earning lessons to win the first Feature of 2026 with the Crate Racin’ USA/DIRTcar Pro Late Models.
Familiar faces of the division will chase the Jacksonville, FL racer for the 2026 crown, including former UMP Modified track champ Garret Stewart, 2023 track champ Dustin Carter, long-time veteran Tuck Trentham, and 2025 Emil and Dale Reutimann Memorial Feature winner Kole Platt.
602 Late Models: Even though Jason Garver never scored a Feature win in the 602 Late Models, four podiums, five top fives, and top–10s in all six division races propelled him to the 2025 track title by 14 points over Brandon Yates and Austin Leamon, respectively.
The winningest driver of the division was Clay Hill, FL’s Bubba Roling, who packed four trophies across 2025. In January, Roling scored a straw hat at Sunshine Nationals in the Friday program of the Crate Racin’ USA category.
Among the contenders seeking their first Volusia Speedway Park win while pursuing the championship are 2022 champion Leamon, Justin Dean, Jason Papp, and Hania Humphries.
DIRTcar UMP Modifieds: Garver emerged as the new master of Volusia Speedway Park in 2025 with a combined five wins among track titles in the UMP Modifieds, 602 Late Models, and Factory Stocks.
However, the UMP Modifieds marked the closest margin of victory for “Racin’ Jason” as five markers separated him and 2024 track champion Seth Geary from the season-long prize in the Prelude to the Reutimann points finale.
The two drivers will face a growing fleet of UMP Modifieds searching for the top of the standings in November. Former track winners include Eric Moon, Dillon Buhr, Zane Oedewaldt, and Todd Neiheiser, along with former track champions Buzzie Reutimann (2022) and Dalton Lanich (2023).
There will also be up-and-coming drivers seeking their first trip to Volusia Speedway Park Victory Lane, featuring Makayla Tyrrell, Wade Olmsted, Joshua Kunstbeck, and Rob Giffen.
3/4 Modifieds: Dalton Hopke brought the definition of dominance to the 3/4 Modifieds throughout the 2025 season with five wins, six top-fives, and top-10s in all his Feature starts.
The Jacksonville, FL driver clinched the crown by an 11-point gap over Ethyn Hwan, who scored his first career win at the track in the Top Gun Classic.
While Hopke prepares to move up the ladder to dirt Late Model competition, it opens the door for new drivers to step up for the championship quest. Amongst the chasers are 2023 track champion Jesse Powers, multi-time winner Colton Lane, the Hwan siblings of Ethyn, Nathyn, and Samara, and 2025 Marion County Speedway champion Chase Cooke.
