Volusia Speedway Park is set to host a Labor Day weekend special with two straight nights of racing for the “Fab 5” as the track title battles heat up.
The annual Labor Day Classic begins on Friday, August 29, with a Test & Tune session from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. The Pit Party, presented by Allen Plumbing, will then serve refreshments and food to all drivers and crews visiting.
Racing begins on Saturday night with a full slate of “Fab 5” racing from the 604 Late Models, 602 Late Models, DIRTcar UMP Modifieds, 3/4 Modifieds, and the Factory Stocks. Sunday night’s finale will offer boosted to-win amounts across the five weekly divisions to cap off the holiday weekend.
Here are the top storylines to follow:
604 Late Models – Winning the last three 604 Late Model races of the 2025 season has helped Trynt Lloyd maintain the division’s points heading into the track’s summer marquee event.
The Jacksonville, FL native is looking to fend off a 63-point gap over Callahan, FL’s Kole Platt through the two days. Platt won his first career points Feature in the 2024 Labor Day Classic and will chase his second event win aboard his No. 44 Rocket Chassis.
Behind Platt, Garret Stewart enters the weekend hoping to score his first Volusia win since Back to School Night in 2024, and his second career Late Model Labor Day Classic win. The former UMP Modified champion from Fruitland Park, FL, sits 71 points back from Lloyd in the points standings.
602 Late Models – Jason Garver is in the hunt for multiple titles at Volusia, but he has yet to score a Feature win with the 602 Late Models while leading the division’s points by five markers over Brandon Yates.
Yates held off Garver for his first Volusia triumph since 2021 in the Firecracker Classic, then followed up with a second-place finish to Bubba Roling in the Summer Sizzler. The driver of the No. 53 Rocket XR1 is going after his first marquee track win between the two nights of racing.
2023 division champ Austin Leamon is the only driver outside of Garver and Yates to finish top five in every Feature through the season. The Lithia, FL driver is seeking to stop the wait for his first career win at Volusia.
DIRTcar UMP Modifieds – The time spent along the DIRTcar Summit Racing Equipment Modified Nationals trail did not hold Garver back in the local points fight after finishing second to reigning track champion Seth Geary in the Summer Sizzler.
With the victories of Jacksonville, FL driver Dillon Buhr, and Gibsonton, FL’s Geary in the last two Features, Garver leads by a slim 14 points over the two drivers, respectively, heading into the doubleheader holiday weekend.
The three drivers are not the only ones in the hunt for a win between the two days, as the division has seen contention from track veterans Eric Moon, Devin McLeod, and Dalton Lanich, along with hopefuls to win their first race, including Makayla Tyrrell and Joshua Kunstbeck.
3/4 Modifieds – Dalton Hopke has morphed into an unstoppable machine through the 2025 3/4 Modified journey with four wins through four Features.
The pilot of the No. H1 has shown nothing short of dominance every time its four wheels have touched the Volusia surface, leading a combined 55 out of 60 laps through all the points Features he’s officially contested.
The winning streak through the first half has helped the Jacksonville, FL driver own a 16-point gap between him and Top Gun Classic winner Ethyn Hwan, hoping to extend the gap further towards his first track championship during the holiday weekend.
Factory Stocks – The track’s top veterans of the Factory Stocks sit a mere two points away from each other as the Labor Day Classic holds the points fates of each.
Defending track champion Patrick Thomas has the slight edge on the points lead over Jason Garver heading into the marquee weekend, but has yet to park his No. 25 Morgan Speed Solutions Factory Stock in Volusia Victory Lane this season.
The Starke, FL native of Garver owns three division triumphs through the season, racing to own a fourth win that will pass him the division’s lead, leaving the summer.
Thomas and Garver have also endured the challenges of the division’s youthful competitors, as 20-year-old Willy Cuddy seeks his second career track win, and 17-year-old Blake Clouser is chasing his first win since the 2024 Emil and Dale Reutimann Memorial with three top-five finishes in four 2025 track starts.
