THREE-PEAT TIMMY: Timmy Hogan Wins 3/4 Modified Germfree Southern Sprint Car Shootout Finale

Saturday’s 3/4 Modified Feature at the Germfree Southern Sprint Car Shootout produced the largest payout in the division’s history at Volusia.

The result? An instant classic that saw Tim Hogan complete a sweep of the weekend, winning every 3/4 Modified Feature in the event.

The Lake Helen, FL driver started on the front row alongside Pierson, FL’s Colton Lane – Hogan’s toughest competition on the weekend.

Hogan took the lead on lap one before Lane swung by him on the high line to gain the top point.

Hogan continued to fall, with Jacksonville, FL’s Dalton Hopke passing him for second place.

As the crossed flags were shown, Hogan regained the momentum he needed to win by running down faster laps than the leaders.

Using the high line, Hogan crossed Hopke down low to retake second place, then closed a 1.6-second gap between him and Lane to retake the lead with two laps to go.

The driver of the #26 crossed under the twin checkered flags to complete the biggest weekend of his racing career – winning his third-straight Feature.

“That was the most fun I ever had in a long time,” Hogan said. “I knew Colton liked the bottom so I protected the bottom and the only way I could get him was to back the corners up, and unfortunately I pulled back too much and he got around me on the outside. He passed me and I said ‘Alright! Let’s Go!’, so I tracked him back down riding around the cushion and he went a little bit too high in turn two, snuck up underneath him and beat him into the corner in turn three and took the #26 all the way to the checkered.”

Lane – who broke his own track record on Saturday – came home in second, hoping to have finished first, but ready to try again when the season begins on March 23.

Hopke wound up finishing on the podium with a third place after a weekend that saw many issues, yet a strong recovery to bookend the weekend.

“Honestly, I’m not too happy with a third place,” Hopke said. “Overall with the weekend, I’ll take it. We broke countless pieces of equipment from clutches, cables, hoods flying, ran out of gas in the Heat race while leading. It’s been a crazy weekend, but what a way to rebound. We kept working at it and I feel like the leaders had fresher tires and I was working three years on my set of tires tonight. Probably time for a new set, but I think we could’ve ran them down but I had nothing left. I can’t thank the Lord above enough, Volusia Speedway Park, everybody that supports me, all my sponsors, and my dad who worked his a** off, Jerry Heflin, and Denzel Cormackin.

Completing the night’s top five finishers were Orange City, FL’s Rusty Young and Lake Helen, FL’s Steven Powers.
