WHAT TO WATCH FOR: Battle in Barberville Returns, Top Gun Sprints Make Final Volusia Visit in 2025

The final 360 Sprint Car appearance of 2025 awaits as Volusia Speedway Park welcomes the most prominent Florida Sprint Car tour.

The Top Gun Sprint Car Series makes its second and final trip to the “World’s Fastest Half Mile” in 2025 for the Saturday night slate, joining the 604 Late Models, DIRTcar UMP Modifieds, 3/4 Modifieds, and the Factory Stocks.

Originally held as the December finale for the track in 2022 and 2023, the Battle in Barberville revival leaves a similar opportunity for the “Sunshine State” Sprint Car pilots to hone in on their knowledge of the 1/2-mile track until the division returns for the 55th Federated Auto Parts DIRTcar Nationals with the American Sprint Car Series National Tour (get your DIRTcar Nationals tickets before Nov. 30 to get a free fan pit pass).

Here are the top storylines to follow:

Top Gun Sprint Cars – When the Top Gun Sprint Car Series made its last visit to the “World’s Fastest Half Mile” for the Top Gun Classic, it was Tyler Clem’s second straight 360 Sprint Car win at the track as the Smith Racing No. 6S sits third in the tour’s points.

While the St. Petersburg, FL driver has built a reputation as one of the toughest Top Gun competitors at Volusia with seven Sprint Car wins and the inaugural Battle in Barberville, he’ll have to go toe-to-toe with three-time champion Danny Martin, Jr., who owns 11 track victories and a 2023 sweep of the event.

Top Gun Sprints points leader Nick Snyder is looking to widen a 50-point gap over Luke Hill with a first career win at the track. Snyder has finished inside the top five in the last two races, while Hill’s last top-10 at Volusia came in August of last year.

604 Late Models – Trynt Lloyd is hot with momentum, as three straight wins in the last three Feature races placed him atop the points grind with three races yet to be decided.

The 19-year-old from Jacksonville, FL, is looking to fend off a 63-point gap over Callahan, FL’s Kole Platt, who finished runner-up in his only Battle in Barberville start with the 602 Late Models.

Behind Platt, Garret Stewart is looking for a return to glory with a 604 Late Model feature win in 2025. The Fruitland Park, FL track champion sits 71 points back from Lloyd in the points standings in his first bid for the boot trophy.

DIRTcar UMP Modifieds – Jason Garver took an unexpected trial in 2025 by racing in four of the five Volusia classes, but it has paid off with vital track time that’s led to his points lead in two divisions.

Since the Starke, FL native won his only DIRTcar UMP Modified Feature in the Spring Fling, he leads Jacksonville, FL’s Dillon Buhr by 10 points and Gibsonton, FL’s Seth Geary by 14 into the final three races.

The division has yet to see a mix of competitors park their cars in Victory Lane, including 2024 track winners Eric Moon and Zac Oedewaldt, 2023 track champion Dalton Lanich, and first-win prospects in Makayla Tyrrell, Joshua Kunstbeck, and Devin McLeod.

3/4 Modifieds – If a driver wants to win the 3/4 Modified title at Volusia, they’ll have to match the speed of Dalton Hopke.

The Jacksonville, FL driver has been the pinnacle of performance in the division with a combined 55 out of 60 laps led for four points wins.

The winning team has the No. H1 Modified in a tight championship bout, as he owns a 16-marker gap between him and Top Gun Classic winner Ethyn Hwan with three points races left in the season.

Factory Stocks – The top drivers of the Factory Stocks will be in full force as the Battle in Barberville paints a clear picture of its title contenders on Saturday.

Defending champion Patrick Thomas holds a two-point margin over Jason Garver, but the Oviedo, FL veteran is looking for his first win of the season at the “World’s Fastest Half Mile.”

Garver will aim for his fourth division win in the last five Features.

Both veterans can expect a battle with the division’s younger drivers, with Christmas, FL’s Willy Cuddy sitting 22 points away from the points lead, and 17-year-old Blake Clouser will go after his first VSP points win since June of 2024 as he owns three top-five finishes in four 2025 appearances.
